KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 4): Gamuda Berhad has secured a project worth RM2.54 billion (A$880 million) in Sydney to build the Parramatta underground metro station and associated infrastructure.

In a Bursa Malaysia filing, Gamuda said the award was made by Sydney Metro to the joint venture Riverside Link Consortium, comprising its subsidiaries Gamuda Engineering Pty Ltd and Gamuda (Australia) Pty Ltd, together with MTR Corporation (Australia) Pty Ltd.

The station works will be undertaken on an 80:20 participation basis between Gamuda’s Australian subsidiaries and MTR Australia, with work commencing on Sept 4, 2026 and targeted for completion in 2032.

“The award of the project to the consortium is a significant milestone for the group and represents a substantial endorsement of Gamuda’s delivery performance and client trust, while providing a major platform to deploy the group's multi-disciplinary capabilities in a highly strategic market,” Gamuda said.

Gamuda and MTR Australia will equally split development rights for commercial, retail and residential buildings above and adjacent to the station.

Gamuda said the award is its sixth project on the Sydney Metro West alignment, following the Western Tunnelling Package (WTP), due for completion in the coming months, and the Stations Package West (SPW), which covers the five stations targeted for completion in 2032: Westmead, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock and The Bays.

Sydney Metro West is a 24km underground metro line between Parramatta and the Sydney CBD scheduled to open in 2032. It is one of Australia’s largest transport projects and  will feature nine new stations, driverless trains and fully accessible infrastructure.

Its joint venture partner, MTR Australia, is a wholly‑owned subsidiary of Hong Kong‑listed MTR Corporation Limited, which is principally involved in the construction, operation and maintenance of mass‑transit railway systems, together with related commercial and property activities.

Gamuda shares were down half a sen (1.07%) at RM4.62 on Friday's noon-break, valuing the company at RM27.9 billion.
